1. What is LIPITOR and what is it used for?
Each film-coated tablet is available in blister packs of 30 and 90 tablets containing atorvastatin calcium equivalent to 20 mg atorvastatin and titanium dioxide as dyestuff. LIPITOR is white, round, “20” printed on one side and “ATV bir printed on the other. LIPITOR also belongs to a group of drugs called lipid (oil) regulators, also known as statins. It is used to reduce fat-derived substances known as cholesterol and triglycerides. Cholesterol, which is necessary for the normal growth process, is a naturally occurring substance. However, when the cholesterol in the blood increases too much, it can be stored in the walls of the blood vessels, causing the vessels to contract and eventually become clogged. This is one of the most common causes of heart disease. High cholesterol levels are considered to increase the risk of heart disease.
LIPITOR is used to lower lipids known as cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood when the low fat diet alone or lifestyle changes fail. Although your cholesterol levels are normal; If you have an increased risk for heart disease, LIPITOR can also be used for this risk reduction. During treatment, you should continue with a standard cholesterol-lowering diet.
